Professor Duncan Topliss
Duncan Topliss is Director of the Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, and a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Monash University. He is a past-president and Life Member of the Endocrine Society of Australia. He is a council member of the Asia and Oceania Thyroid Association.
He is active in clinical practice and research in endocrinology. He has been a member of the editorial board of Clinical Endocrinology, and is a frequent reviewer for Clinical Endocrinology, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Thyroid, and other endocrine and internal medicine journals.
He has a long-standing interest in thyroid disease including a doctoral thesis in this area on thyroid autoimmunity. His particular current interest is the treatment of thyroid cancer. He has been a principal site investigator for several tyrosine kinase inhibitor trials in advanced thyroid cancer, including the recent published SELECT trial of lenvatinib.
He established the osteoporosis clinic at his hospital and has conducted research on cystic fibrosis-related bone loss.
He has a long-term interest in the prevention and management of acute and chronic complications of diabetes and has been an investigator on multiple major international diabetes trials relating to this, including FIELD, DREAM, ORIGIN, and ADVANCE.
He has a major interest in drug regulation and safety as a member of the Advisory Committees on Pharmaceutical Medicines (ACPM) and on the safety of medicines (ACSOM), to the Therapeutic Goods Administration of Australia.
